This will be Pope Francis’ first Christmas as Pontiff. Even though he doesn’t like to stay up late, he will make an exception to celebrate Christmas Eve Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. Despite being named the ‘midnight’ Mass, it will be held at 9:30 p.m, Rome time.

Then on Christmas day, the Pope will give his traditional ‘Urbi et Orbi’ blessing at noon from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. It’s the traditional yearly address to Rome and the world.

Just like his predecessors, on December 31st, at
5 o clock, Pope Francis will preside over the ‘Te Deum’ prayer. It will be a way to give thanks to God, for the year’s blessings. Then, he will head out to St. Peter’s Square where the Nativity scene is placed.

On New Year’s Day, January 1st, the Pope is planning on celebrating Mass at 10.00 a.m, at St. Peter’s Square to pray for peace.

The last major ceremony of the New Year’s will be on Monday January 6th. Pope Francis will celebrate  Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica to mark the Feast of Epiphany.
